Our community connections committee has been at work non-stop getting out in our communities. We have been taking part in community events, creating our own, and helping out members of our community in need.
In October, we donated some Halloween costumes to those in need from Sweetgrass School so they could take part in this fun community activity. For many of these students this was their first opportunity to take part in this cultural experience. The EDLC is excited to aid in helping increase accessibility for people to be able to participate in events in their community.
On November 10th the EDLC took part in the All Is Bright Festival on 124th Street. An incredibly fun and successful event when you get to see so many happy little faces as they decorate a Christmas shaped cookie. EDLC’s tent was given a prime location at the entrance to the park and with the beautiful weather, the crowds were huge. Our light sabered Jedi kept the kids busy and laughing with duels and fist pumps while waiting for their chance to decorate one of the 42 dozen cookies with red, green or white icing topped off with gummy bears, sprinkles, white and chocolate chips, jelly beans, crushed candy cane sprinkles and more. The night was topped off with a sleigh ride, music from live performers and smores. Thank you so much to Karen Parks and her granddaughter Kayla for volunteering to help as well as Lynn Davis and her Jedi husband Kelly. We couldn’t have done it without you.
On Dec. 2nd we did our part to stuff a bus for the food bank. This year they hit 27,694 kg of food items and $22,030 in cash (last year - 29,823 kg and $19,089). Hopefully the additional three thousand dollars is enough to by 2 thousand kg worth of food. Either way the ETS is calling it a great success and we are proud to play our part for this worthy cause.
On December 8th we are taking approximately 150 people from St. Teresa’s School on a Christmas Lights Tour of Edmonton. We are using 4 ETS busses and volunteer drivers from ATU 569 to help pull this off. After the tour the children will be treated to a small gift from Santa and the guardian will be given a grocery gift card to help them celebrate the holiday season. We are excited to help families enjoy the holiday season in our beautiful winter city.
See you in the New Year everyone!
